This MGF chain is infused with polyethylene glycol (PEG) in order to give it a half-life of several days where it will remain present within a subject.
The pegylation process holds a significant purpose in maintaining effective plasma concentrations of systemically administered drugs.
This is possible by surrounding a section of the peptide with the polyethylene glycol shell. This allows parts of the peptide to act as a negatively charged shield which repels positively charged compounds that could cause a disruption.
